Export Documents Checklist: Shipping from Africa to the EU and GCC

The common documents buyers and customs authorities ask for when importing goods from African suppliers.

Core commercial documents

Most shipments need a commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading or air waybill. These describe what is shipped, its value, and how it travels.

Origin and quality

A certificate of origin can qualify goods for reduced tariffs under trade agreements. Food and agricultural products often need phytosanitary or health certificates; cosmetics may need product safety documentation.

Check the destination rules

Requirements change by product and country. Always confirm current rules with your buyer, freight forwarder, or the destination's customs authority before shipping.
